TO FOLLOW THE WATER:

Exploring the Ocean to Discover Climate

Author Dallas Murphy Lecture at Rosenstiel School

New book explores ocean and climate variations; includes first-hand experience aboard research vessels from NOAA

Though there can be no cogent understanding of climate that excludes oceans, oceanographic scientists have thus far been left out of the public discussion of climate and climate change. In clear, straightforward prose, Dallas Murphy brings oceanography “ashore” demonstrating how its practitioners' interests and ours-no matter where we live-intersect around the climate we all share. A critically acclaimed novelist, playwright, marine journalist, and author, Murphy’s writing blends history, travel, adventure and science as he asserts the vitality and importance of the Gulf Stream and related ocean currents.

Reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 6:00 p.m.

All events are free and open to the public; however seating is limited.
