LIONFISH:
Invasion of the Atlantic
Lad Akins
Director of Special Projects, REEF
Lionfish are voracious predators, from the Indo-Pacific, with venomous spines that could cause significant impact to fisheries, tourism and public health. Recently, these fish have invaded Atlantic waters, along the east coast of the U.S., Bahamas and Bermuda, and may soon arrive in the Florida Keys. Lad Akins, Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) Director of Special Projects, will review the ongoing research on Lionfish and discuss ways the public can assist with early detection and control.
